Administrative Gun Handling

Administrative Gun Handling is the area of gun handling where all the accidents happen. What is administrative gun handling? Its loading and unloading, cleaning, transporting, holstering, or unholstering. As a matter of fact, its anything you do with a gun besides shooting it.

Loading and Unloading-

Many people don’t handle their handguns properly. Some struggle with basic manipulation of the slide to load and unload the gun. They twist and turn and point the muzzle (rule number 2) (muzzle direction) in places that are considered unsafe or inappropriate. If you rack the gun from right to left or left to right you are probably doing it unsafely. Someone can be in the shooting booth next to you and you are pointing the muzzle at them. You could be out on the prairie and someone your shooting with might be standing next to you.
Many people struggle with these standard gun manipulations because they were never taught how to do it properly. If you can’t do it properly then you are probably operating a gun that’s not for you, or you have never been shown the correct way to do it. I see many people who violate (rule number 3) (finger off trigger) while trying to manipulate the slide to load and unload the gun. Get professional help and training on how to manipulate the slide properly on a semi-auto handgun.

Guns In Cars in Parking Lots

This one happened at the Zoo where the Shooting Range is located. People are leaving guns in autos and are losing them to thieves. The most popular places to keep your guns according to the police reports we have seen are Under the Seat - The Glove Box- and The Center Console. These locations in your car are not safe. Remember to lock your guns in your car safe when you leave your gun in your car. I have safes available that are inexpensive and TSA approved for flying with your gun. Let me know if I can help you keep your firearm secure.

Home Defense Shotgun Mini-Course

Many people came to the Home Defense Shotgun course last month. I will be having these mini-course events on these guns and how to use them for people that are using shotguns in the home for self-defense. We will look at accessories, ammo, and safe gun handling techniques as well as a few laws that may be helpful. Learn what your shotgun is capable of. I will have this mini-course on your schedule and it will last a couple of hours. Let me know your schedule and I will set a date and time for you. This mini-class will be available for a small fee of $35.

Free Gun Cleaning Class FGCC

Last month some of you missed this training so I am going to do it again in October.

You should all understand that there are many ways to clean your handgun and they are probably all better than not doing it at all. I am teaching the way I have always done it. The idea is to get all the leftover grunge from the firing cycle out of your gun and to lubricate it so that it runs properly and does not malfunction on you when you need it the most. Many of the modern handguns that we own could probably be fired literally hundreds of times with no cleaning and probably never hiccup even once.
But do we want to take that chance? I personally do not like to carry a fired gun for self-defense. Do I clean my guns after every firing? No many times I don't, but if I fire my everyday carry (EDC) handgun then I always try to clean it right away. Cleaning a gun is like many things in the firearm industry there are a million ways to do it. There is not just one correct way. Find a way that is easy for you and maintain your firearm so that it will work when you need it the most.
Do not go out and buy a cleaning kit......You will want to see what I recommend you get, and I will have some inexpensive cleaning items for sale during these events. October 14th and 15th, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm in my classroom. If these dates do not work for you let me know what does and I will try to arrange something different.

OC/Pepper Spray Training

OC/Pepper Spray is legal everywhere in Colorado. It is one of the best ways we have to defend property and ourselves in non-deadly force situations. It also serves as a complement defensive tool for anyone that carries a handgun for self-defense. Remember if all you carry is a gun the legal system can say that you intend to use a gun as a solution for everything. Statistics indicate that most self-defense encounters would not qualify for use of a gun (your life is not in danger). Contact me direct for the best OC/Pepper Spray at wholesale prices.

Let me know if you would like to have this training. A few people missed it last month due to scheduling conflicts we will hold it in the evenings to make it work for your schedule
Class fee is $35

6/5/4 Drill from (Tom Givens) can be modified to suit your practice routine and use smaller amounts of ammo due to the shortage. Change distances and times based on your skill. Some shoot a few routines with this target and then shoot a .22cal pistol. There are many ways to conserve ammo in these tough times...

Ammo Shortage Revisited

After you have been through a couple of these cycles you will learn some things about ammo. 1st, every time you see some ammo you should pick up a box or two. You will shoot it eventually or in a crisis like this one you will have ammo to practice with or ammo to trade for things like food and water. Ammo is always going to be an important commodity. 2nd, I think the prices are very high for what is available. I think the price will come back down and availability will increase. Remember we usually go through this when we have a Presidential Election (hint hint). Don't pay those high prices you are seeing on the web. All you are doing is helping people take advantage of you and all the rest of us. The price will come down and you will be able to purchase ammo again at a reasonable price.
Steel and Aluminum cased ammo always surfaces during these times. I don't like to shoot it in my guns. Read the article below... It can be dirty and wear parts of your gun prematurely. Sometimes you have no choice. I'm also seeing dealers selling baggies of ammo and some of this is non-jacketed and can lead up your gun barrel. I'm not so sure that these aren't reloaded (be careful) Picture above was sold to one of my students notice no jackets and different color cases???
