NRA Pistol Course Descriptions

Ever wonder what the NRA teaches in its NRA Pistol Course? This page is
a summary of the most popular NRA pistol courses taught. There is no
substitute to good training in the fundamentals of any skill.

This page was not funded or endorsed by the NRA, but rather is an
effort by a NRA-certified instructor to educate the public about NRA Pistol Course.

 NRA Gun Safety Rules

Safety is the primary goal-Remember when handling or storing any firearm
conscientious attention to these rules will prevent most, if not all, gun accidents.
Be aware that ignorance and carelessness lead to accidents in all walks of life, including
the handling of firearms.
Always  keep the gun pointed in a safe direction-
If the gun should discharge, it should not harm any person or
destroy any valuable property. Careful attention to muzzle direction
is key to safely handling a firearm. When carrying a firearm from place to place,
the best way to control the muzzle is to keep it in your view.Be aware of what
objects can stop a bullet, and what ones cannot. In NRA courses, and on shooting
ranges, the instructor or range officer will explain and point out the safe
directions available.
Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot-
Under normal conditions guns do not discharge unless the trigger is
pulled. When holding or manipulating a gun, hold the grip firmly and place
the trigger finger along the frame or receiver, not inside the trigger
guard.
Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use-
Guns cannot be discharged unless they are loaded with live
ammunition. There are many uses of guns which permit them to be
loaded, but such firearms must always be under your control.
Guns not in use, but not stored, should have the action locked open
so that anyone may inspect the chamber and magazine for live
ammunition. When handing a gun to another person, lock open the action (if
possible) and check the chamber and magazine by sight and feel to
ensure than no live ammunition is present. The person receiving the
gun should also check.

firearms training pueblo coloradoFirearms Training

Firearms Training in Pueblo, Colorado varies from instructor to instructor, but with NRA instruction your firearms training class should be structured by the NRA and these classes should be very similar from one class to another. The NRA Firearms Training programs are the same in every state because they do not discuss the local laws and regulations. They teach firearms training from the same book and it is all structured so that you learn all the concepts that they teach.

Firearms Training from the best…

Most people will tell you that the experience they had with NRA programs of Firearms Training is great. The structure and method of how the NRA puts on these firearms training programs is wonderful, and you won’t find a finer group of Certified Instructors to handle them for you.

Pueblo Colorado Concealed Carry Class

Pueblo Colorado Concealed Carry Class is held several times during the week. The schedule is need-based and is subject to change all the time.  This Pueblo Colorado Concealed Carry class is for beginners and experienced alike. It is my goal to provide the best education on a basis that works for people with busy schedules. Pueblo Colorado Concealed Carry Class has been held on weekday mornings and weekday evenings depending on the need. Almost every week a Saturday or Sunday option is available. Thursday and Friday are two days I do not have Pueblo Colorado Concealed Carry Classes available.

Gun Safety
Class always includes a section on gun safety. Gun safety is paramount, especially since an individual is more likely to hurt themselves or another family member than they are to ever have a self-defense situation where they would defend themselves or their family with a gun.

Colorado Gun Laws and Use of Force
A section on this topic is always included so the individual understands the ins and outs of gun possession. These laws vary from state to state but most people spend the majority of their time in the state of Colorado so the need is for them to understand Colorado and its laws. The use of deadly force is a subject that can take a tremendous amount of time to learn all the nuances of these Colorado laws. I have taken the majority of these sections and boiled them down to understandable topics that you need to know to keep yourself and your family safe and out of trouble.

Some topics covered in this section:

The permit process
Places you can legally carry concealed and open
States that your permit is valid in
Colorado 18-1-704 Use of physical force in defense of a person
Colorado 18-1-704.5 Make My Day
Elements of Self Defense
AOJ Triad
Tuller Drill
Encounters with Law Enforcement
Use of Force Scenario and Discussion

Guns and Gun Handling
I ask my students to bring a gun to the Pueblo Colorado Concealed Carry Class (with no ammunition of course). This is for people who already have a gun for concealed carry or own several guns and want to see if it is an appropriate selection for its intended use. All others I ask them not to buy a gun before class. I will teach the most important factors in choosing a gun and many of the aspects that go along with it.  I will have plenty of guns in class so do not worry about not having a gun.

Some topics you will learn in this section:

Proper loading and unloading of Revolvers
Proper loading and unloading of Semi-Auto Pistol
proper names for the parts of a gun
proper ammunition for practice and self-defense

Many other topics and discussions will be entered into in the Pueblo Colorado Concealed Carry Class. I also give one hour of shooting with each class, not always held on the same day. There is no additional charge for this on my part. You will have to pay range fees and bring your own ammunition.

Many of my students enjoy these classes and you can see many recommendations and reviews in several places on the internet.

We had a great class yesterday at the American Legion Post 2 in pueblo Colorado. Everyone learned a great deal about pistol safety and how to handle a firearm. The certificate they earned will allow them to proceed with the concealed handgun permit process if they desire to do that. One thing everyone learned is that their learning journey has just begun. There is so much to learn about shooting and gun handling that no one class can teach all of it to you. The other very important thing everyone learned is that this skill takes practice. Everyone needs to practice to become proficient with firearms, different types take different procedures to be safely handled and stored. One interesting drill we did in class is the safe passing and accepting of a pistol both revolvers and semi-automatics.  Here is a video that incorporates what we learned.

As with any firearm technique think safety first and remember practice makes perfect……..

Mr. Ron at the class

Mr. Ron Telling the class a story

What a Great Class……everyone was very receptive to the NRA basic pistol training course. We even had one person that had never shot a pistol before. The class was mixed male and female and not all were sure they were going to get a Concealed Carry Permit, but all walked away with a certificate that would allow them to do so.  Most were trying to make sure they knew enough to make a good informed decision about whether it is right for them or not. One thing they all did was learn how to be a safer, better shooter. Some had decisions to make about the kind and caliber of gun. Some needed to be more informed about the responsibility of safely storing guns in the home. Every person had some great stories to tell and my team instructors had some excellent stories of their own. This is the type of class anyone could take…old, young, experienced or novice. We had them all and they all came away smarter, safer and confident about handguns and the role they play in protecting the students and their families.
