Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit Class

Concealed Handgun Permit Class

The Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit Class Level I is a four hour comprehensive class on handgun safety, handgun actions, ammunition and Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit Laws. The class is designed for all levels of shooters. Our class includes discussion on the laws for concealed carry and the use of deadly force. This class stresses the responsibilities of the concealed carry permit holder, safe pistol techniques and different methods of carrying. Completion of this class will give the student a completion certificate necessary when applying for a Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit. You will know the safe handling, loading, and unloading of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols before class is finished.

Don’t Buy A Gun for Class

You do not need to buy a gun for class, you will be taught how to pick a gun for self-defense. Colorado Law does not require live-fire shooting for a permit, but we think it is important. This class also includes one hour of live fire training with an Instructor that is a Double Distinguished Expert in Semi-Auto Pistol and Defensive Pistol 1 with the NRA at no additional charge, many times scheduled on a different day. Many people like to practice the skills they have learned in class, or purchase a handgun before the live fire session. This is a fun way to learn an important skill, the format and content of this class make it like no other offered in this area.

Don’t be fooled by classes that do not give you the information you need to keep yourself and your family safe and out of trouble. This class provides information that other instructors are not teaching. Rick Sindeband has a substantial background in firearms and has hundreds of hours of training in many areas. Many Instructors in Southern Colorado do not have the credentials and are not certified in Personal Protection In and Outside of the Home and the Advanced Pistol Instructor Rating. Don’t risk your freedom or your life on inferior training.

Concealed Carry Restrictions

The License is for Concealed Carry

Restricted Concealed Carry -There are some confusing signs in the Pueblo area that restrict your right to carry a concealed weapon. Some of the signs are on public or county properties and they are very visible. The first one that we have all seen says The Open Carrying of Firearms Or Deadly Weapons Within This Building Is Prohibited” .  This sign is straightforward. You can not carry a gun that is exposed (open carry) as the cowboys did in the old days in this building. Concealed Carry is fine but it has to be concealed. The Confusing part of this sign is when it shows up somewhere that you can’t carry at all. Look at the 10th judicial court building where they have metal detectors and sheriff officers guarding the entrance.

CCW is allowed not open carryConcealed Carry Sign Pueblo West Library

The next one is a little tricky and people have told me that is says something different than it actually does. “Bringing in concealed weapons that are not legally licensed and permitted, or openly displaying a weapon except by law enforcement officials is prohibited”  this sign has two parts separated by a comma. The first part says you can’t bring a concealed weapon in unless it is licensed or permitted. The second part says no open carry except by law enforcement. These type of  Concealed Carry restrictions or notices are common. The problem ensues when a person doesn’t read the entire sign and really dissect what the meaning or intent is from the sign.

Remember it is your responsibility as a licensed concealed carry individual to know and understand all the restricted areas that you encounter in your normal travels around town. Restrictions apply but are not limited to, the Jail, Post Office, Court, Schools, Airports, Public Transportation(Bus), Colorado State Fair Grounds. Of course, any place that has a metal detector or a sign posted with some restrictions.

Pueblo City Ordinance 11-1-601

The Pueblo City Ordinance  11-1-601 is very clear on the subject. It defines all the things you should not do and then tells you what you can do. This ordinance discusses knife blade lengths and stun guns. When living in the Pueblo area you should read this ordinance so that you are informed.

Bank signs vary from location to location. One of the things that always comes up Bank Sign in Pueblois the fact that no gun signs in Colorado have no force of law. What that means is that Colorado, unlike some other states, has some very weak language in their sign law.  Attorneys report that in these locations all that can happen to you if caught with a firearm is to be asked to leave.  Should you refuse you may be able to be charged with trespassing.  Timothy J. Priebe, Esq. an attorney in Colorado has written a paper called Should I Stay Or Should I Go where he discusses this issue. You should read and understand this document.

Bank Sign TexasThis sign is on one of the local banks in downtown Pueblo, Colorado it is totally bogus. This sign is the Texas Law 30-06 and these laws do not exist in Colorado. This bank just thinks most people will follow whatever sign they post or that gun owners are sheep. (This sign has been removed)

As always none of this is legal advice. Most advocate being informed and follow the law. To follow the law you must understand the difference between coffee table chat and knowledge. My class has new information in it all the time. If you are a concealed carry permit holder and you are up for renewal you would be wise to get some updated information so that you can make good decisions for you and your family.Medical facility sign

Colorado Concealed Carry Renewal TrainingThis year I’m seeing a big surge in Colorado concealed carry renewal training because I think people are finally realizing that they may not have gotten the training they needed to safely carry a concealed handgun when they first got their permits. If you have gone more than 5 years without some concealed carry renewal training you are kidding yourself. I am teaching material I have learned in the last year. Being an instructor is a commitment to training and being a student forever. Part-time instructors, gun show classes, hotel classes, and a class at the church may or may not have given you what you need to stay out of trouble and survive a deadly encounter.

Let’s face it the chances of you using your gun in self-defense are slim and none. Thank god Self Defense shootings are rare. Most shootings that you hear about are gang-related or involve the police or some criminal activity. The chances that you will injure yourself or someone else administratively mishandling your own gun is really high. Transporting your gun, loading and unloading that self-defense ammo because it’s expensive and you don’t want to waste it at the range. Cleaning your gun, and the big one drawing from the holster and then re-holstering and carrying a gun either improperly or in the wrong holster. These are all activities where accidents happen and concealed carry renewal training can help.

Concealed Carry Renewal Update is Important

Next, the level of understanding of the allowed use of deadly force amazes me. I had a conversation with a couple in a renewal class the other day. I was floored at the level of misinformation most concealed carry holders actually have. People believe they can do all kinds of things with their guns in and out of their homes that are not proper. Then there are the state gun laws that have not changed much in the 10 years I’ve been involved in this arena.

But there are places now in Colorado that have preempted Colorado State law and made up their own regulations. Guess what, you have to follow them and ignorance is not an excuse. Yes, there are lawsuits filed on these laws. These lawsuits will take years to figure it out and meanwhile, you are subject to these rules. I remember a time when the rules were the same everywhere in Colorado that made you confident about having a gun and knowing what was right and wrong throughout the state.

Do you know the Law

On top of all that traveling out of the state of Colorado with a gun in your car has gotten trickier and trickier. Do you carry insurance for this you should if you don’t?  Do these things sound important to you? Important enough to get someone to tell you the real scoop. Colorado Concealed Carry Renewal Training can help.

I’m not sure I want to rely on a class I had in the basement of some organization taught by a guy whos been a firearms instructor for 3 months. You are risking your freedom, your finances, and your life. When you don’t get the concealed carry renewal training and information you need to carry a concealed handgun safely in Colorado. Think about it. Are laws being passed or ignored all over this country? What about Immigration, what about Marijuana. Are laws and regulations being passed everywhere that someone says are illegal or not valid under the constitution either by the state or federal governments.

Colorado Concealed Carry Renewal Training

And last but probably the most important. Can you hit the target with your chosen handgun at what most people consider to be reasonable distances for self-defense? Will you safely access your gun and put shots on target under stress? Can you draw your handgun sitting down? Have you practiced shooting your gun at contact distances? Have you tried to practice pulling your firearm while in your car?  Most self-defense incidents happen within 10 feet. Are over in less than 3 seconds with 3 or fewer shots being fired. And usually happen frequently in and around automobiles.

Colorado Concealed Carry Renewal Training is easy to get it just takes approximately 2.5 hours and can be done on your schedule. Don’t listen to your friends at the coffee shop about when you can shoot someone it’s not their savings or freedom that’s at risk. Get scheduled for Colorado Concealed Carry Renewal Training today.

concealed carry online trainingI have seen a recent increase in people coming to me with the sad story of spending their money on concealed carry online training only to find out that it is not acceptable in Colorado.

First– Colorado adopted a law in 2013 stating that concealed carry online training was not appropriate and that it was not allowed under our concealed carry laws in Colorado. Some confusion was had when the NRA came out with a training module that was done online, the difference being that you had to seek out a certified instructor to finish the class in person. This was allowed under the law because you had part of the training with a live person and that was an exception in the statute.

New Colorado Law Bans All Online Training

C.R.S. § 18-12-202(5)

“handgun training class” does not include any firearms safety course that allows a person to complete the entire course:

(I) Via the internet or an electronic device; or

(II) In any location other than the physical location where the certified instructor offers the course.

Second– Concealed Carry Training is not something you get out of a cereal box.  You need to not only discuss the laws of the state you will be carrying in, but you should have some hands-on training with a firearm so that you know the proper and safe methods of handling your firearm on a general basis especially under stress. Very few people come to me with what I call appropriate knowledge to be able to administratively handle their firearm and do it safely. I recently had a person in a class that had just taken another basic course from a certified instructor in the Pueblo Colorado area. This student informed me that they were not taught any of the safe handling techniques I use in my classes.  I find this especially troubling since most firearms accidents happen when administratively handling the handgun (loading and unloading). I also have witnessed instructors with students on the firing line where the student can not administratively handle that firearm safely in the shooting booth. This truly worries me that people are not getting some of the most important primary training they need. Its no wonder that concealed carry online training was not allowed under Colorado law.

You can get the training you missed out on in that hotel class or that class with an inexperienced instructor.  Contact me and let me know you would like to get a refresher on some of these issues and I will set you up for a class to do just that.

uslawshield300U.S. Law Shield now covers any legal weapon not just firearms. The coverage states any legal weapon in a place that you can legally be. This means even your barehands, pepper spray, or a legal knife. This is great coverage for anyone interested in keeping themselves protected against an unexpected lawsuit either criminal or civil .

In many of my classes I talk about the importance of knowing when you can and can’t use deadly force. The attorney’s from U.S.Law Shield discuss this situation in many of the classes they hold. A person may use deadly force if a lesser degree of force is inadequate. A person does not have to retreat before using force regardless of whether they are in a place they have a right to be. All that is required is that a person is facing an imminent threat, they did not provoke unlawful use of force, they were not the initial aggressor.

draw from the holster training

Conceal Carry Draw From the Holster Training

When you make a choice to conceal carry a gun it is important to get proper draw from the holster training for conceal carry and practice so you can handle your equipment safely and effectively. One area usually missing is learning to draw from your conceal carry holster.

Learn a Proper Efficient Draw

When you draw properly, it can be the difference between life and death. During this class, you will learn and practice the steps needed to draw properly from a conceal carry holster. With practice, you will master the steps for a draw from the holster and combine them into one fluid motion. The draw from the holster training is one of the most important aspects of conceal carry and handgun self-defense. The instructor for the seminar is Rick Sindeband. Rick has many years of experience with firearms and is certified to teach this skill.

Don’t Be Fooled

Only one percent of all firearms instructors are actually certified to teach an individual proper and efficient draw from the holster. One of the key components is the safety aspect. There are many accidents that happen from improper equipment or poor techniques. Watching a video on youtube is not enough. A qualified instructor needs to watch and guide you through the process because you can’t see yourself making mistakes.

Many of the incidents you have seen nationally would have turned out much better for everyone involved had the person been trained properly. If you are on your church security team or just protecting your family. Get the training that saves lives.
